that’s the name of the tour that anomia&beautiful gorgeous took down the east coast that landed them at our house for 2 nights. note, at the end, i didn’t say ‘hey ho’, i said ‘heyo’ as made famous by brett michaels of ‘Rock of Love’ fame.

Have you ever had a month….
-that you wish would never have ended?
-that you finished with MUCH more on your prayer que than when it started?
-that seemed to be incomplete?
That was May for me. It was a fun month, with lots of good times and connections. In the context of a leadership training event recently, I pondered on my yellow tablet the things either unfinished or in the immediate future (20 days) for me. The list was staggering.
for that reason, it’s going to be May 32nd for a while for me. I’ve made a decision to break out of several things of the ordinary until about June 20.
and it hasn’t been easy at all. I’ll be transparent a bit.
Youth Pastors generally freak out when we see a teen whip out the cellphone during church to text their friends. It damages the ego…. but in essence, it truly can be a distraction. My mantra has been….’You have your cell phone 168 hours a week…and us for 1. Let’s do the cell phone seranade and put that thing to sleep’.
But not last night. We began a Lifechurch series called ‘Its all in your mind’, and after reading some youth ministry blogs on the subject of cellphones recently, I had the guinea pig mentality to try something new last night. After our message, as part of the program we broke the students into groups by grade level, and had the group leader lead in with this task…text 3 friends any of these 3 questions (about the message content). We encouraged them to share answers with their peeps from their grade groups…
After their group discussion (15 minutes), I came up for a 5 minute closing for a redux to the message, as I had asked the students to text me with some questions and comments. All in all, it was a huge night…and really kept the word of God on the edge of their brains long after the night ended as their friends poured in the texts.
My feelings on this….text messaging so huge at this point in history. I remember reading in the Vanity Fair Africa issue that the whole growth sector of the Nigerian economy is done by text…even bank transactions. If we create space in our programs for text messaging that is distinct and interactive, it can have a very positive and relevant impact.
Great day this 4-22 has shaped out to be. On my way into work, I flipped on the sports station… and they were awarding a dozen roses to the 5th caller…being that our 4th anniversary is coming up, I called in, and I WON. Not bad in this market of over 1 million souls. Don’t worry, she doesn’t read my blog…so the surprise is still safe.
With the money saved, I went ahead and bought Rachel a T-shirt from Tom’s Shoes. Being that there aren’t always cool xxL t’s out there (for me), I love when I can find a deal on cool small clothes (for her). check out Tom’s. He donates a pair of shoes to a child in poverty everytime you buy clothing/shoes from him.
while on this clothing kick, I browed some stuff over on 25 Cloth. They were covered at Q, and had some good vision about donated 20-50% of profits to Rwanda for clean water. I’ll definitely think of getting her some stuff there as well. and I like the Black and Red T. Let me know what you think.
